Child Safety Standards
Last updated October 9, 2026
Night Embers is a private chat app for adults who have just matched, published by Harmon Web Innovations. We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) and child sexual abuse material (CSAM). This page sets out our standards, what we do to prevent harm, and how to report a concern.
Night Embers is for adults only
Night Embers is only for people aged 18 and over.
- Everyone gives their date of birth when they create an account. If it shows they are under 18, no account is created, and the same email address cannot be used to try again with a different birth date until the block ends.
- Our Terms of Use require every user to be 18 or older and to give a true date of birth.
- We close any account we believe belongs to someone under 18.
- The app is listed on Google Play for adults only.
What is not allowed
You must not use Night Embers to do any of the following. This applies to messages, photos (including Ember Photos), profile photos, answers, usernames, display names and anything else you send or share:
- create, share, ask for or link to child sexual abuse material (CSAM) of any kind, including drawn, edited or computer-generated images;
- sexualize a minor in any way, including in text or role play;
- groom, contact or try to meet a minor for a sexual purpose;
- sextort anyone, or threaten to share intimate images of a minor;
- traffic, advertise or solicit a minor for sexual purposes;
- pretend to be an adult if you are under 18, or help a minor get onto the app.
Breaking these rules leads to the immediate and permanent closing of the account, removal of the content, and a report to the authorities as described below.
How we prevent harm
- Adults only, checked at sign-up (see above).
- No public discovery. There is no browsing, no swiping and no public feed. A person can only be found by their exact username or their personal link or QR code, and anyone can turn that off. Two people can only chat after one invites the other and the other accepts.
- Block and report everywhere. Anyone can block or report another person from the chat, from an invite or from a profile, and report a single message or photo.
- Private photo storage. Photos are uploaded only through our own servers, never to a public link, and only the two people in a chat can see the photos in it.
- Reports override deletion. When something is reported, we keep a private copy, even of an Ember Photo that would otherwise disappear, so it can be reviewed and, where needed, reported to the authorities.
- Clear rules in our Terms of Use, which forbid sending anything that sexualizes or endangers minors, and forbid profile photos that show anyone but you.
How to report a concern
In the app:
- Report a person, a profile, an invite or a message: open the chat menu (top right), the menu on an invite or a profile, or long-press a message, and choose Report. Pick the reason Someone may be under 18. You can add a note and block the person at the same time.
- Report a photo: long-press the photo, or the Ember Photo card, and choose Report, then Someone may be under 18. A copy of the photo is kept for review.
- Stop contact straight away: choose Block from the same menus. The chat and its photos are removed for both people, and the other person can no longer find or invite you. They are not told.
- Contact us from the app: Settings (tap the menu or logo at the top left of Home) has Contact support / report a safety concern, which opens an email to us.
By email, for anything else (for example a person you believe is under 18, or something that happened outside a chat): write to reports@nightembers.com. Include the person's username if you know it.
If a child is in immediate danger, call 911 first.
You can also report child sexual exploitation directly to the NCMEC CyberTipline: report.cybertip.org or 1-800-843-5678.
What we do when we receive a report
Every report about a possible child is treated as urgent. When we receive one, we:
- review it within 24 hours;
- keep the report and the reported content from the moment it is made until we have reviewed it, instead of deleting it after the usual 30 days;
- remove the content and close the accounts involved if it breaks these standards;
- report it to NCMEC where the law requires, as described below.
We do not tell the reported person who made the report.
Working with NCMEC and law enforcement
Harmon Web Innovations is based in the United States.
We report apparent child sexual abuse material, and apparent enticement or grooming of a minor or child sex trafficking, to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline as required by US law (18 U.S.C. §2258A). We keep reported material securely for at least one year after we report it.
We respond to valid legal requests from law enforcement about child safety and may share information with them when a child may be at risk.
Following the law
Night Embers is offered only in the United States. We comply with the child safety laws that apply to us, including US federal law on the reporting and preservation of child sexual abuse material.
